How often should I water my plants?
- There is no uniform answer which will work for every gardener.How often you need to water the plant depends on factors such as season (time of year),the type of garden and type of soil.
- Know the plant’s requirements through checking the labels of the plants when purchasing the seeds or seedlings.If the plant requires moist soil then it will mean the plant need more water.
How do I check of the plants need water?
- Finger rest: Stick your finger in the soil, if the soil is dry then it will mean that plants need water.
My garden area,does not get any sun ,so can I still grow anything in my garden?
- Having less or no sun in your garden is very limiting but it does not mean you can’t grow anything. Certain plants are able to grow in the shade. Lettuce is able to grow in summer months (warmer temperatures) will do well in partial shade.
How often should I fertilize my plants?
- It depends on what you are fertilizing and the type of fertilizer of choice.Almost of small gardeners prefer liquid-soluble plant fertilizer once every once or twice a week.Some plants prefer regular fertilizing to survive while other plants need little fertilizer.
Be careful on fertilizing your plants too much because this might lead you killing them.
What does full sun/part sun/part shade/full shade mean?
- Full sun: plants need at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily
- Part sun: plants need 3-6 hours of sunlight daily.
- Part shade: plants needs 3-6 hours of direct sunlight but protection from afternoon sun
- Full shade: plants need less than 3hours of direct sunlight.
Kindly suggest veggies and herbs to plant in summer.
- Summer is a good season for almost all the plants so you can go wild.I suggest tomatoes,butternut,beetroot,basil and parsley.You can grow anything.
What are your beginner gardening tips?
- Always start small and with what you have.If you don’t have space then consider container gardening.You can start with herb garden because they are easy to maintain.
What do I need for soil prep?I am starting container planting on my balcony.
- Potting soil is best for container gardening and potting soil contain all organic essentials to ensure proper growth.
I planted lettuce 2 weeks in the container and leaves are turning yellow, please help!
- Turning yellow of the leaves is due to too much sunlight so try move the container to an area of abit of shade.
