These gooseberries are commonly known as Cape gooseberries due to the Western Cape being the largest producer of the gooseberries in South Africa.
Season: Cape gooseberries start beating fruit between 4-5 months after being planted. The gooseberries can be harvested on a weekly basis until eighteen months then the plant fruits may begin to decline.
Care: The gooseberries are not fragile like the raspberries but harvesting is done by hand since the gooseberries have to be picked at optimal ripeness.
Health: Unlike most berries, gooseberries are high in fat, making them carry fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamins A, D, E and K. Gooseberries also have anti-inflammatory properties, ease digestion and promote weight loss.
Gooseberries can be enjoyed fresh in usually desserts or even salads.
I love their sour taste.
